A business born from lived experience
Claire and James Fuller were working as self-employed contractors when they encountered the time and complexity involved in tax and financial administration. Hnry’s company history says that experience prompted them to develop a service to make the process easier for sole traders. The company launched in New Zealand in 2017.
A specialist service, not just an app
Hnry’s proposition combines software with financial administration and support for self-employed people. That matters because sole traders often need more than invoicing tools: they need confidence that income, expenses and tax obligations are being handled correctly. The service model and the trust placed in it are central to the business.
The independent-work economy
Freelancers and contractors value flexibility, but self-employment can shift administrative responsibilities onto individuals. Hnry’s growth reflects a wider market for services that remove friction from running a one-person business. The important questions for customers remain transparent pricing, service scope, tax accuracy and the support available when circumstances become complicated.
