Editorial policy
The Zuardian is committed to accurate, fair and original journalism for New Zealand readers.
Our principles
- Accuracy: we check facts before we publish and we correct errors promptly.
- Fairness: we seek comment from people and organisations we report on, and we give a fair summary of their response.
- Independence: advertisers, sponsors and subjects do not control our coverage.
- Transparency: we attribute information and tell readers when something is unconfirmed, opinion or sponsored.
- Original work: we do not republish others’ work as our own. When we draw on another outlet’s reporting we credit and link to it.
Content types
- News: factual reporting, sourced and checked.
- Opinion and analysis: clearly labelled and written by named authors.
- The Goss: entertainment news based on named sources, on-the-record statements or public records. We never present rumour as fact. See Ethics and fact-checking.
- Sponsored content: always labelled “Sponsored” and kept separate from editorial. See Advertising policy.
Authors
Every article carries a byline linked to an author page. We do not publish under made-up names. Staff are listed on Meet the team.
Use of AI
If we use AI tools to help with research, transcription or drafting, a human editor is responsible for everything we publish, checks it for accuracy and is accountable for it. We do not publish unreviewed AI-generated text, and we label AI-generated images.
Right of reply
If you are the subject of a story and think we have it wrong, contact us at editor@zuardian.co.nz.
